Laura Johnston, RN

Director of Operations

I graduated from Butler County Community College Spring of 2010 after moving around to different colleges and making several changes in my major including Early Childhood Development, Business Management, and Massage Therapy. Through all of my experiences and education, I learned that my real passion was to help people and my strength was empathy and leadership.

I began my nursing career at St. Joseph Emergency Department, where I worked for over 8 years. I loved caring for patients in such a vulnerable state and being a part of an amazing team during my time in the ER. I learned about Prairie Health and Wellness several years ago when Safia started working here. We had worked together in the ER and really enjoyed one another and held one another in high regard. I loved the idea of getting to the root problem and treating the whole person. The focus on educating and empowering patients was so refreshing after treating so many patients in the ER that I knew could feel better and live better if they were equipped with the right knowledge and tools. I was especially excited to hear about the goals for pediatric care focusing on kiddos with developmental delays and special needs. This goes back to my roots as a preschool teacher and my current status as a mom of kiddos with special needs. I always wanted to take the pediatric patients in the ER because I knew that I provided excellent care to the kids and always assessed and supported the emotional needs of the parents in these difficult situations.

I was so blessed to be offered the position of Medical Team Lead for Prairie Health and Wellness in early 2018 and I have grown to love our team and our wonderful patients. I live the working mom life, bouncing from my PHW family to my Andover family. I have 3 beautiful kiddos who light up my life and a wonderful husband of 9 years. I have a beautiful cat named Cookie and a brand new puppy, Lucy Mae, who is bringing back memories of the newborn era with my kiddos. I'm a dreamer, always thinking up big ideas, usually focused around saving the humanity of the world in some way! Ha! You can often find my family at the lake, sporting events, playing board games or goofing around outside. I'm a pretty lucky gal and I'm so incredibly happy to be at Prairie Health.
